ESC - Educação, Sociedade & Culturas (Education, Society & Cultures) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) of the University of Porto, Portugal.

Since 1994, ESC publishes scholarly articles that explore significant ideas, issues, trends, policies and problems in education, and in related disciplines outside the education field, which contribute to the development of education theory and practice.

ESC aims to contribute to the development of the Education Sciences, helping to deepen the dialogue between cultures and disciplinary perspectives and to enlarge the public debate on educational and social issues. Specifically, ESC aims to disseminate the research produced across a range of education fields and other social sciences and humanities, focusing on the relationship between education and training and social issues. Moreover, it provides a forum for academics, researchers and practitioners to debate processes causing exclusion, inequalities and social injustices, and is committed to promoting the study of social and socio-educational policies and practices. Additionally ESC seeks to become an international platform for research in education.

Although ESC is based in Portugal, we very much welcome contributions that enhance academic debate from anywhere in the world.

Articles should constitute original research, and should be methodologically sound, theoretically informed and of relevance to an international audience.

Articles are accepted and published in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.

Each research article in ESC undergoes rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and, if judged suitable for ESC, refereeing by at least two anonymous referees.
