Education 2030 takes up the unfinished agenda of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Right to Education for All (EFA) and underlines the importance of cooperation to promote access to education for the most vulnerable and marginalized, inclusion and equity, gender equality and the quality of education and training. There is an urgent need to reflect critically on the complexity, implementation perspectives and implications of Agenda 2030 for cooperation policies and practices and their appropriation at the University, enhancing their role in quality development cooperation, which can contribute to initiatives poverty eradication and human development. Research on development cooperation in education is scarce in our country. This work presupposes, first of all, the construction of an epistemology of cooperation for development, where the current principles of alignment, appropriation, sustainability and orientation towards results appear as fundamental.

Due to the dialogue between the Nossa Senhora da Paz School (Cuito-Bié) and CIIE/FPCEUP, this initiative aims to conduct a qualitative study on the educational context of the province of Bié focused on training of teachers, taking into account the development policies of the sector in Angola and the current Development Agenda 2030. Thus, the study has the general objectives of mapping development cooperation initiatives in the area of ??education in Bié; characterize teacher training in the province; and to promote the dimension of research in education and development. To this end, it is intended to: identify cooperation projects that act directly or indirectly in the area of ??education in Bié; know the models of cooperation in the area of ??teacher training in the province; co-construct a project of cooperation for the development in the area of ??the formation of professors in the Nossa Senhora da Paz School; to characterize the training of teachers in the province of Bié, taking into account training models, curriculum, profiles of trainers and trainees, taking particular account of gender issues; identify constraints and facilitating variables in teacher training; know the existing research networks in the field of education; and mobilize education specialists and other educational development actors from the context in question for this research.

The team will be made up of a group of researchers from the CIIE (Portugal) and the partners in Angola, namely the Director of the Nossa Senhora da Paz School, the head of the Cuito Bié Municipal Education Department and the Director of the School of Primary Teaching of Huíla. In addition to the collaborative work in different phases of the research, the research foresees the displacement to the ground for direct articulation between the partners.

It is hoped that the work will result in the mapping of existing cooperation actions; in a set of recommendations for the promotion of quality cooperation in education; in the mapping of the educational context, focusing on teacher education; in establishing a community of research practice in education and development (in partnership with local institutions); and the dissemination of the knowledge produced, through the public presentation of the results in the contexts involved (FPCEUP and Bié province), publication of scientific articles and other materials and dissemination of the project in digital meetings and platforms.
