Biographical data

Félix Neto earned a Ph.D. in Normal and Abnormal Anthropology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and Paris V (Paris) in 1980 and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação (Universidade do Porto) in 1985. He obtained the Habilitation in Psychology at University of Coimbra in 1990.

He is actually a "Professor Catedrático" of Psychology in the Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação at the University of Porto, Portugal (since 1993). He was the coordinator of the Master on "Cross-Cultural Relations" at Universidade Aberta (1996-2006). He was also the director of the Cognition and Emotion from FCT (1994-2002). He was regional representative for Europe from International Association for Cross- Cultural Psychology (1992-1994). He was vice-president of Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicologia (1997-2002).

Currently he is director of the Psychology Doctoral Programme at the University of Porto. He has been involved in several large-scale cross-national projects (including ICSEY- International Comparative Study of Ethnocultural Youth – and ISATIS – International Study of Attitudes Toward Immigration and Settlement) examining the role of Portuguese emigration and immigration, gender stereotypes, racial attitudes, perceptions of risk, love, deception, and implicit cognitions. Professor Neto’s research interests include migration, emotion and cross-cultural psychology. Author is of 18 books and over 250 scientific articles.
