|  |  | SIG Writing  is a special interest group of the European Association for Research on  Learning and Instruction (EARLI). It was initiated in 1988 by Michel Fayol and  Pietro Boscolo. Currently, SIG Writing as over 100 members, and many more people  participate in its activities. Typically our conference reaches more than 150 attendees,  from all over the world. SIG Writing members come from a variety of  disciplinary backgrounds, including education, psychology, linguistics, cognitive  science, rhetoric, computer science, and literary studies.  SIG Writing  is an international, cheerful, and very active group. Along with its biennial  conferences, SIG Writing members are committed to fostering writing research  through several initiatives, such as the newslist server,  the prepublication and archive server,  the Studies on writing series ,  and the on-line journal Journal of Writing Research.  If you are  not a member of SIG Writing, you will soon discover the many benefits of  becoming a member. To name but one, you will have access to a reduced fee when  registering for the Porto, SIG Writing 2012 Conference. To join SIG  Writing you have first to join EARLI, and indicate that you want to be a member  of the SIG Writing. We strongly encourage all researchers and students who  participate in the SIG Writing’s activities to register for membership!
